California DECA Chooses Make A Wish as State Project

Author:

With the new DECA Chapter Campaign outline, community service is now one of the five focus areas for DECA chapters. The California DECA State Officer team would like to encourage you to participate in this fun and easy campaign by supporting the Make A Wish Foundation.  In order to receive international recognition, your chapter must complete one or more community service activities with at least 75% of your members in attendance, and one form of publicity or promotion for the event.  This one event gets you recognition for completing one campaign and the activity planned can count as a community outreach activity for your promotional campaign!  Here are some sample projects and tips for your community service campaign:
1. Contact your local Make A Wish Chapter: contact the organization in your area to find a volunteer event for your members to attend to not only gain recognition for this campaign, but work towards recognition at SCDC!
2. Hold a fundraiser for Make A Wish: whether it be a car wash, a bake sale, a talent show, or a rummage sale, get your chapter together to raise money for the state service project.
3. Advocate for Make A Wish: hold an awareness meeting at your school and invite service organizations to attend and learn about this amazing foundation, or educate your community by handing out flyers at a local store and articulating the vision and impact of Make A Wish.
Here are a few helpful tips for planning your community service project:
To get more members to attend your community service campaign project, offer an incentive like service hours or even a slight discount on a conference.
One form of publicity or promotion could be anything from a speaker announcement, flyers posted in your school’s hallway, a poser, Facebook posts and pictures or even website page for the event!  It can be simple, but be as creative as you can be!
This National Campaign is something that your chapter can do to gain recognition, bond as a chapter, and help the state service project, all while having fun!  Projects in DECA month are just the start to a great year of DECA and service.
