After State CDC, I’m sure you’ll want to share, but how do you make your posts more visible? EdgeRank… What is EdgeRank? EdgeRank is the little-known method that Facebook uses to decide what shows up in your News Feed. Likewise it also controls what shows up in other people’s News Feed. Its exact mechanisms are secret, but Facebook has shared some insights into what it does.
There are three (known) components called:
- Affinity
- Weight
- Time-Decay
Affinity is how close you are with someone. If you visit someone’s page often and comment, that person’s posts are more likely to show up in your News Feed. Note that this is only one-way, and that visiting someone’s page will not make your posts show up more often in that person’s News Feed. Weight is a value assigned to different types of posts (for example things like Photos, Links, Normal Posts). Some have much higher weights than others. Have you ever noticed that Photos show up a lot on your News Feed? Also the number of comments, shares, likes also affect your posts. Lastly, there is time-decay, which means older posts are less likely to show up.
Using this knowledge, I hope you can increase your visibility when you create events, share stories, and otherwise post on Facebook.
