Northern California Leadership Development Conference Recap

Author:

The San Ramon Marriott is like a home away from home for many DECA members in Northern California. This venue has been used for several DECA events throughout the year, including Northern California’s LDC and CDC! On Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12, this hotel was the place to be as the Northern California Leadership Development Conference took place!
The conference was kicked off by Kyle Scheele, an energetic and motivating guest speaker, who makes a concerted effort to point out that, “he once met a guy from Canada!” When some people think of guest speakers they imagine a monotonous presentation that delivers a message they’ve heard countless times. Fortunately, that was not the case at this event! At this conference, Kyle Scheele kept the audience engaged and laughing as he discussed how to “tell a better story with your life.”
After the opening session, attendees had the opportunity to attend one of five workshops, two of which were led by California DECA state officers! These workshops allowed members to improve their skills in areas ranging from teamwork to project management. A Presidents Council meeting took place after these workshops. The presidents in attendance received special pins that they can wear on their DECA blazer to signify their dedication and commitment to California DECA! The night concluded with games and dancing in the ballroom!
Waking up early is never easy, but this task was made a little easier at this event because a warm breakfast awaited all conference attendees! This breakfast was in a formal setting and attendees listened to a presentation on dining etiquette while they honed their skills! Following the breakfast members were able to expand their abilities as competitors. Members participated in one of two pathways: a pathway geared towards experienced competitors or one for new competitive participants! These two competition pathways were great learning experiences, and featured workshops led by highly qualified instructors, including a former international champion!
Overall the Northern California Leadership Development Conference was a great success! Members gained new tools and knowledge in a wide variety of areas while networking with fellow leaders from across Northern California! This opportunity motivated California DECA members to make this DECA year count!
