Make the Congressional Recess Count!

Congress has returned home for an annual recess, lasting through September 6th. With your Congressional Representatives closer than ever, now is the best time to take action! Here are some great ways to show your Congressional Representative how important DECA is to you.

  • Schedule a meeting with your representative and share with him or her why DECA is important to you. Visit your representative’s website to find out how to contact him or her!
  • Attend a town hall meeting. Congressional Representatives usually host town hall meetings for their constituents during their recess periods. Explain how DECA has impacted you and ask your Congressman or woman what they plan to do to support DECA and Career and Technical Education.
  • Get social! Connect with your representatives using social media. Sample tweets or Facebook posts can be found via the link below:

In addition to garnering support for California DECA, meeting or connecting with your legislator is great practice for future public speaking! Meeting with legislators may be a new and daunting task for members who are unfamiliar with the political process. There is no need to worry though because your state officers are here to help! Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like tips and pointers on scheduling a visit, or if you would like a second opinion on what you plan to say at a meeting with your representative. Resources are also being added to California DECA’s Chapter Resource Center to help members schedule and execute successful meetings with their legislators!
It is crucial that our representatives know how important their support for DECA is. Without their support our programs would cease to exist. We have elected these representatives to be our voice in the government, but in order for that to happen our representatives need to hear our voice! The tools we need are at our disposal, and it has never been easier to make the Congressional recess count for California DECA!
