Orlando, Florida—April 9-11, 2014—Hospitality students from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California participated in the 11th annual Hospitality and Tourism Management (“HTMP”) International Competition in Orlando, Florida and championed first place for the second year in a row. The HTMP competition is hosted by the America Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) and incorporates multiple elements of hospitality management in a three-part competition. Students are challenged with tasks ranging from identifying housekeeping errors to determining budget parameters and proposals.
With support from Monta Vista DECA advisor Carl Schmidt, the team from Monta Vista High School is comprised of Michael Lin, Madeleine Liu, Shannon Yu, and team leader, Albert Zeng. The team was one of a dozen elite teams competing at the international level. Commenting on the competition, team member Albert Zeng, who is also the California DECA Vice President of Silicon Valley, indicated, “It was really stressful at times, but I got to meet a bunch of cool people and overall I had a lot of fun!”
In addition to the first place honor, the team also received scholarships totaling nearly $175,000 from event sponsors. Congratulations to the team and Mr. Schmidt for this amazing accomplishment!
