For several thousand members across California, DECA is more than just a ‘high school organization.’ In honor of this year’s DECA month, we wanted to highlight just how impactful DECA is by asking Cindy Guo, Vice President of Silicon Valley, one simple question: Why do you love DECA? Written in a letter format, the article below details her response:
I love DECA because I’m surrounded by the most intelligent, most creative, most charming, and most innovative high schoolers who inspire me. I love seeing the faces of competitors who get to stand on stage. I love selfless DECA members who cheer for their friends, even though they may be feeling bummed out.
I love DECA because I’ve met the kindest and most genuine members who have guided and nurtured me. They’re all striving to be better versions of themselves; at the same time, they gladly bring you up with them.
I love DECA because of SVDAT and my State Officer Team. Being able to host LACE with SVDAT and staying up ‘til 2am planning it all was unforgettable. I’ll always remember squealing and crying during Scott Greenberg’s speech, despite hearing it for the second time. Korean BBQ, escape rooms, Disneyland, and more–the State Officer Team has become my family.
I love that being in DECA automatically gives people a better impression, and expectations are held higher if you’re a DECA member.
DECA is where I met some of my favorite people, and I promise it’ll be the same for you.
I love DECA because Silicon Valley DECA never fails to amaze me. Thank you for leaving me in awe whether it’s during competition, performing at SV Factor, or just being so kind and patient with me.
I love DECA because it has allowed me to explore and discover my passion for business. DECA encourages competitive excellency, but at the same time, it is the perfect platform to make connections.
DECA is the best thing you will discover in high school, and you will never regret joining.
In essence, I love DECA because I love my DECA family. I walk out of every conference a better competitor, a better friend, and a better person, and I know you will feel the same.
I sincerely welcome YOU to join my family: California DECA.
