This past April 21st through 24th, California DECA had an incredible time at DECA, Inc.’s 2018 International Career Development Conference, marking a #Limitless end to another extremely successful year.
ICDC was the pinnacle of the 2017-2018 DECA year, with over 19,000 members from across the world convening in beautiful Atlanta, Georgia to compete against, network with, and recognize some of today’s brightest emerging business leaders. California DECA attended with about 500 delegates, with members representing our state in the wide breadth of competitive event categories as well as at the THRIVE, ASPIRE, ELEVATE, and EMPOWER leadership academies.
Team 68 state officers, alongside State Officer Alumnus Christopher Carlsen, served as voting delegates for the 2018-2019 Executive Officer Elections and had an opportunity to help select DECA Inc.’s new student leaders. Another huge congratulation to Executive President Andrew Weatherman and Western Region Vice President Jonathan Wilson for their elections – California DECA can’t wait to work with inspiring leaders like them!
The new state officers, furthermore, met with fellow Western Region associations to promote the 2018 Western Region Leadership Conference, scheduled to be hosted in sunny Anaheim, California, this upcoming November.
As a whole, this conference presented an occasion for all members, old and new, to grow and develop as individuals, competitors, and – most importantly – leaders. Simultaneously, the weekend was packed with fun – members had a blast at DECA Day, hosted at Six Flags over Georgia, as well as DECA Night, hosted at Pemberton Place, home of the Coke Factory and the Atlanta Aquarium.
California’s competitors saw tremendous success as well – 94 members were named International Finalists for their events, and 71 members Top 10 in the world. 26 more individuals were named top 3 internationally, with 9 being first place international champions.
This past year has been truly limitless, but there is an even more extraordinary 2018-2019 year in the making. And California DECA, more than anything, is READY FOR IT.
