The countdown is on! ICDC is only a few days away.
Right now, you’re likely finalizing your roleplay and written preparation, reviewing Key Performance Indicators, and creating your handouts. But regardless of whether it’s your first year in DECA or your last, you are about to experience one of the most exciting and rewarding conferences of your DECA journey.
The International Career Development Conference (ICDC) goes beyond CA DECA’s District and State Career Development Conferences. In Orlando, you’ll be competing against the best teams in your event internationally, networking with the top 23,000 high school DECA members, each with the same goal: to “Be the One.”
So, as you pack your bags and prepare for three days of competition, long days, and time spent with friends, here’s what to expect and how to make every moment count in Orlando.
- ICDC is more than a competition
Although we all hope to go home with glass, the real experience of ICDC lies beyond the competition setting. Memories made at Universal Studios, with your teammates and chapter, and through pin trading and networking, will last far beyond the award ceremonies. Don’t be afraid to meet new people, try different restaurants, and take advantage of all that Orlando ICDC has to offer!
- Maintain your professionalism
Your performance isn’t evaluated only on your content – judges will pay attention to how you compose yourself, how confident you are, and your overall impression. At ICDC, you’re not representing only yourself or your chapter; you’re representing California DECA. Be respectful, engaged, and make members remember us not only for our incredible performance and talent, but also for our spirit and professionalism. Whether speaking with judges and advisors, interacting with fellow competitors, or cheering on your peers on the stage, represent California DECA in a positive light.
- Get a full night’s rest
ICDC is going to be fast-paced and busy, with early testing sessions, late-night ceremonies, and time to be with friends. It’s essential to plan ahead: prepare your competition materials, don’t forget your lanyard, and set all of your alarms the night before. Just as importantly, be sure to get your sleep! Be in your room by curfew and maximize your rest so that you’re recharged for the day ahead.
- Be flexible and positive
Not everything at ICDC will go exactly as planned, but don’t let these things affect you. It’s not uncommon to have your events delayed, stutter during your presentation, or face external challenges, but being adaptable and maintaining a positive attitude can go a long way. The pressure can feel overwhelming, but remember that making it to ICDC is an achievement in itself – don’t feel discouraged if things don’t go exactly as you’d wanted. Even if you don’t return home with glass, learn from your mistakes and move forward.
As you gear up for the exciting days ahead, remember that ICDC is a culmination of all the effort and preparation you have put into this DECA competition season. Regardless of your performance, enjoy the ICDC experience and be proud of what you’ve accomplished.
We hope to see you on stage!
