California DECA State Officers Meet Tom Torlakson

Author:

The California DECA State Officer Team met State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson. It was a highlight of the 2011 State Career Development Conference in Santa Clara, California. The State Officers expressed their appreciation for the time that Superintendent Torlakson spent with them and the opportunity to discuss California DECA and the many opportunities that DECA provides our student members.
Among the topics the officers discussed was the importance of Career and Technical Education funding to California DECA.  Each year California DECA impacts close to 3,000 high school students across the State of California.  We regularly hear from our students how DECA changed their life, enhanced their preparation for college, and gave them a head start on their career path.  Preparing students to be college and career ready is at the heart of what we do.  We are always excited and eager to share our story and the great impact our organization has on students.
