Competition Tips to Help You Excel

Author:

Conferences are right around the corner! With State CDC coming up and ICDC right after, now is the time to crack down and make sure you are ready to compete against hundreds of other DECA members in your quest for a spot on stage under the shining lights. The best advice is to be prepared-don’t leave anything for the last minute! Once you know your project well, the only obstacle left to overcome is to practice, practice, practice, and then shine when it comes time to present to the judges.
Here are a few more important tips to help you excel:

  • Do not ignore preparing for you event’s test as well, because the test factors a lot into your final score and placing.
  • Always be professional and confident. Stand up tall, give a firm handshake, and speak brightly to impress the judges and show them you definitely know your stuff.
  • Remember to be on DECA time; wake up early on competition day so that you have plenty of time to get ready and you’re not rushed. Arrive early to your event to calm your nerves and collect your thoughts.
  • Finally, just trust yourself. Once at a conference, it might be a bit nerve-racking to see hundreds of different members there, polishing off their projects and getting ready to present. Don’t let the excitement get to you; just stay calm and focused on what you need to get done, and the rest will fall into place.

Good luck and have fun!
