Prepare for SCDC

Author:

After months of rigorous preparation, it’s time for the 2014 State Career Development Conference in Anaheim California! It is here that you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of business and hopefully earn yourself a spot at the 2014 International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Remember, because California DECA reached 4,500 members last year, the top four finishers in any event will qualify for our International Competition!
If you had the opportunity to attend your district competition, it is essential that you learn everything you can from this experience. Your advisor was given your judges’ scoring sheets. Analyze these documents and learn what areas you should focus on improving between now and state.
Before you come to Anaheim, plan out some chapter activities. Scope out good eating locations and think about calling in a reservation. Friday evening is the best opportunities your chapter will have to do sight seeing activities. If your chapter is planning to go to Disneyland, remember that these tickets must be purchased in advance (the online ticket store closes at 9PM PST on Wednesday, February 5, 2014). All ticket sales must be made through Disney. California DECA will not be coordinating ticket sales.
Disneyland is just one of many activities your chapter can pursue! We encourage you to be creative and take advantage of our great hotel location. One outing that other chapters have done in the past is a trip to the beach. This activity requires extensive planning, but if done properly, it can be a highlight of the weekend for many students.
Finally, whether you’re traveling 350 miles from Northern California or 35 miles from Southern California, below are some items you won’t want to forget to bring to State CDC.

  • Student ID
  • Professional dress clothes
  • Visual aids to accompany your written event
  • Bathing suits
  • A charger for your electronic devices
  • Toothbrush
  • Four-function calculator for your exam
  • Snacks for your hotel room

Your state officer team is excited to see everyone at this year’s State Career Development Conference! Safe travels and see you soon!
