First Silicon Valley LDCEC A Success!

Author:

From November 16th to the 18th, over 400 Silicon Valley DECA members attended
the Silicon Valley DECA Leadership Development and Competitive
Excellence Conference at the San Francisco Airport Marriott. The three
day conference was packed with presentations by guest speakers and
business professionals, DECA competitive excellence workshops, and fun
opportunities for the members to network!
Scott Greenberg, a motivational speaker, kicked off the conference on
Friday night by speaking to the SV DECA members about achieving
personal success, and his engaging presentation was one of the
highlights of the conference. On Saturday morning, the SV DECA members
were able to hear from Rob Salaverry, the co-founder of Joyflips,
about his entrepreneurship experiences and current startup as well as
learn more about how to write business plans through break out
workshop sessions. During the afternoon, members were able to attend
and choose from 4 different competitive excellence tracks (Marketing,
Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Welcome to DECA) where they learned
tips and tricks from past ICDC winners and heard from business
professionals (such as Charles Huang, co founder of Guitar Hero, and
Rex Wang, the Vice President of Product Marketing at Oracle) about
their careers in business.
Then, on Saturday evening, members were able to learn how to dress for
success through presentations by Men’s Wearhouse, FIDM, and Sephora
(who also provided sample products for the members). After a day full
of learning, the SV DECA members were able to relax with their friends
at a dance, which included a dance-off competition and photo booth.
The conference ended on Sunday morning after a presentation by Xiao
Wang, founding member of the China America Innovation Network, who
discussed her transition from a career in biotechnology to
entrepreneurship. Overall, the conference was a success and great way
for members to learn more about DECA and their business interests,
meet DECA members from the Silicon Valley District, and have a great
time!
