MLK DECA Recognized as Outstanding Youth Group by City Council

Riverside, CA—Martin Luther King DECA was recently recognized by the City of Riverside City Council and the Mayor’s Youth Council program as the most inspirational youth group for the month of October. They were honored at a city council meeting in October.

The Riverside Youth Council’s purpose is “youth advocating youth with integrity and purpose; empowered with the voice to shape the future of Riverside.” The Council’s Inspiring Youth of the Month has been recognizing youth and/or youth groups in the city for the last four years. The group’s web site says they recognize youth who achieve “the remarkable and make an impact in the community and convey the dedication, determination, and overall spirit of Riverside.”

Chapter officers attended the October City Council meeting to receive the recognition. Officers in attendance included Vincent Adriatico, Hina Habib, and Margarita Oreta, as well as co-advisor Robert M. Camacho. Camacho said of the group “We are very proud of our chapter and extremely honored by this recognition by the City of Riverside.”

Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge told the MLK DECA chapter “Congratulations on your success in the classroom and at competitions. The lessons you experience today will prove beneficial to you in the future.” California DECA also extends its congratulations to Martin Luther King DECA for this outstanding accomplishment and for representing DECA so well!
