State Officer Advocates for DECA at Solano Teacher's Workshop

Fairfield, California—October 3, 2014—California DECA Vice President of Public Relations Greg Chi attended a teacher’s workshop in Solano County on Friday, October 3, and presented about the features and values of DECA as well as the impact DECA makes on students.
More than 25 career and technical education (CTE) teachers and specialists from the region gathered at Solano County Community College in Fairfield, California, for the workshop. As part of the workshop series, a section on “Embedding Student Leadership” was reserved for Career and Technical Student Organizations from the state. In attendance along with DECA were FHA-HERO, FBLA, and SkillsUSA.
solanoIn his presentation, Greg discussed DECA’s core principles and values, and highlighted the benefits of incorporating DECA into classrooms in a co-curricular model.  This included outlining the strengths of the program, such as its alignment with national curriculum standards and Common Core. In addition, he explained how the various conferences throughout the year allow students to gain professionalism, compete, and network, sharing a personal anecdote about his experience as a member in California DECA. He also delineated the advantages of having a DECA program at a school, including the easy access to student and teacher sponsorships as well as benefits from DECA, Inc.’s National Advisory Board.
Overall, the advocacy presentation was a success and was received well by the audience of CTE teachers.
